Young Art- Understanding the World Through Art

The Co-learning Project features an art education workshop for children in elementary school grades 2-6. The program includes Discussion Classes, which use stories and creative activities to explore contemporary issues Exhibition Classes, which take participants directly to exhibition venues for an open-ended artistic experience.

Curiosity Relay Station

To strengthen a signal or expand its range, a relay station amplifies and re-emits what it receives. Similarly, curiosity can amplify a small corner of our daily lives, leading to surprising discoveries and profound insights that make life a rich, ongoing journey.

In our main visual, why is artist Olafur Eliasson's face a striking yellow? Why does Hemingway's face sport a leopard print? Why are tears streaming down Yukio Mishima's face? What creature is spreading its wings on Syaman Rapongan's cheek? And what's the connection between this "curiosity" and the Young Art annual theme, "Art and Identity," which explores how art helps us understand the world?

We'll seek answers to these questions in our exhibition class by visiting the "Olafur Eliasson: The Curious Journey" exhibition at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Then, in the discussion class, we'll follow the clues on a "3D Literary Journey"—looking out at snow-capped mountains from the African wilderness, standing in a rainy Japanese park for a competition of tears and fountains, and diving into the oceans of Lanyu to listen to the waves of the new millennium.

As these stories echo the artists' creations, we'll focus on our own sense of self, environment, civilization, and values. It is curiosity that drives us to build our own identity while also understanding others and opening up a dialogue. We hope this "curiosity relay station" will forever be active in a child's heart, powerfully and openly transmitting and receiving information from the world.
