CANOPY PROJECT
Almost There
MEI-YU CHANG, CINDY CHENG I-HSIN
2023/02/04 - 03/11
Almost There points to the state of exhausion before reconstruction. Here, the encounter of two walking artists sews together a place seemingly infinite, without visible boundaries, beginnings or ends. The body lingers among shadowy elements on the loop as the repetitive movement of the feet becomes the exchange and transmission of information. An open invitation, the physical exhibition runs the play of memory, where life takes form with each breath, and narratives get awakened in each step.

ARTIST
MEI-YU CHANG, CINDY CHENG I-HSIN
The Hong Kong born artist Mei Yu Chang immigrated with her family to Taiwan as a child and is currently studying for her Master of Fine Arts degree at Taipei National University of the Arts. Using video installation, animation and mixed-media as mediums of preference, focus on differences between cities, disappearing architecture, observe the various things, people and objects that often appear in the apartment, sensing changes in the environment and microscopic details of daily life.
Born in Taiwan and raised in Penang, Malaysia, Cindy Cheng I-Hsin makes text, performance, sculpture and installation inspired by the concept and technique of printmaking. Her works investigate her shifting surroundings, scrutinising physical and metaphorical print marks of everyday activity. Her practice
concerning reflections on identity and cultural imprints pictures an alternative way of understanding humanity in which she sees human-being as print-making.
