2022/01/10 - 02/12

2024 Tung Chung Prize|GHOST IN THE SEA-M
This story begins on Xingcheng Street, Taipei. From the 1970s to the 1990s, the city’s "Blacksmith Street"—stretching from Xingcheng Street to the area behind Taipei Main Station—flourished alongside the peak of the ship-breaking industry. Today, Xingcheng Street remains the last urban cluster of iron and steel industries, poised for the inevitable tide of urban renewal. Will Blacksmith Street simply vanish? To vanish implies that something truly existed; how the facts, experiences, labor, and connections of this place are documented and transformed into memory before they disappear—along with the shifting of this industrial space—will determine its future form of existence. Everburning is a phase-based sharing of the "Blacksmith Project" in its third year, continuing to experiment with the possibilities of linking the present to both the past and the future.

ARTIST

YEN-TING HSU

Hsu Yen-ting uses sound as her primary medium, focusing on the cultural contexts and textures embedded within it. Her work often reflects the relationship between sound and the environment, as well as its ties to personal/collective memory and internal emotions. By weaving together field recordings, electronic sounds, and object-based acoustics, her explorations oscillate between the documentary and fictional, narrative and imaginative qualities of recorded sound. She frequently collaborates across various media and artistic disciplines, presenting her work through installations, performances, sound documentaries, and electroacoustic music. Additionally, she is active in sound design and scoring for contemporary dance, theater, and film. Her works have been presented at venues and festivals including: Taipei Artist Village, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, New Taipei City Art Museum, Taitung Art Museum, Cheng-Long Wetlands International Environmental Art Project, Taiwan International Documentary Festival (TIDF), Festival Film Dokumenter (Yogyakarta), Toyama Glass Art Museum (Japan), Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA), Arte Radio (France), Lacking Sound Festival, On Site, Liquid Architecture (Australia), Asian Meeting Festival (Taipei Arts Festival), Taiwan Sound Lab, and Digital Art Center Taipei.
