CANOPY PROJECT
Resonance of Moisture
PO-HAO CHI
2023/12/30 - 2024/01/27
Resonance of Moisture derives from the artist’s experiences in Xizhi, brought to life through close collaboration with local communities, visiting various water bodies and management facilities to trace the essence of water. Xizhi, formerly known as “Tsui-Tng-Ka,” is named after the tidal reversal of the Keelung River. The exhibition, grounded in the hydrological environment and history of Xizhi, explores how people manage the water around them—river, rain, or moisture—and how such interactions are intricately reflected in daily life.
Is there a sensory connection between routinely minor water-related mishaps and catastrophic large-scale flooding in urban settings? Through crowd participation, field research, and environmental sensing, the artist has assembled numerous water-related elements to explore further how everyday appliances—such as dehumidifiers and humidifiers—and smart home devices mediate and augment our sensory experiences. Stemming from people’s reliance on and concerns about water, the exhibition crafts an embodied spatial experience depicting the cyclical journey of water.

PO-HAO CHI
Po-Hao Chi(b. 1989) is an artist and cultural producer from Taiwan whose practice explores the ‘grey area’ where technology and people meet. Inspired by pioneers such as Brian Eno, Alvin Lucier, and David Tudor, as well as the principles of cybernetic art, he investigates the evolving dynamics between humans, artifacts, and systems. His works explore themes including sonic agency, self-organization, and generative processes, encompassing conceptual experiments, participatory activities, digital platforms, custom-built tools, performances, and installations that repurpose everyday technologies into dynamic sensory experiences, exploring how artistic expression enhances the way we coexist with digitality.
Po-Hao has undertaken residencies and collaborations at renowned institutions, such as FACT Liverpool (UK), Laboral Center and Medialab Prado (Spain), V2_Lab for Unstable Media (Netherlands), Cité Internationale des Arts (France), 18th Street Arts Center (USA), and Asia Art Archive (Hong Kong). Recent projects, such as Resonance of Moisture, 3000 Years Among Microbes, and Interfaces of the Invisible, reflect his focus on bridging societal and technological themes through interdisciplinary approaches.
In addition to his artistic practice, Po-Hao has expanded into curatorial projects, such as Convergence: Artistic Explorations from Nature to Society, commissioned by Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council. He is also committed to education and public engagement, having taught at institutions like the National Tsing-Hua University and Chinese Culture University in Taiwan.
