LITTLE ANT & ROBOT CAFÉ
HUANG YI STUDIO +
2021/06/18 - 06/20
After years of incubation, Huang Yi Studio+ were finally able to bring their work Little Ant & Robot Café before audiences in the form of a repertory performance. It is a piece which explores the relationship between art and society through choreographed dance, experimenting with a number of possible theater industry models, whilst also bringing audiences closer to art through an immersive performance experience.
The theatrical production Little Ant & Robot Café gradually took shape within the confines of Taipei’s Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. Its stage installations were built in collaboration with architect Grace CHEUNG of XRANGE architects, and head chef Richie LIN of MUME, and Lee YU of NINAO Gelato, were invited on board as culinary consultants. Collectively, this group worked together to create the space and design the dishes for the performance, combining to deliver to the audience a fully immersive experience. With each performance able to accommodate just 15 active participants, both audience and performers could feel intently each and every detail of the others around them. This allowed the audience to experience the amplified emotion and energy of the cast’s performance by sitting, as they were, just an arm's length away. Little Ant & Robot Café thus operates by presenting a futuristic view of a 22nd century Taipei café, with the dancers and the KR3 KUKA robot coming together to give life to a unique theater performance.
